Corso Centocelle is one of the main commercial and relational axes of the historic center of Civitavecchia. The redevelopment project involved the expansion of the pedestrian paths in correspondence with the commercial establishments, allocating service traffic to the remaining space. The alternating circulation systems are joined by a central pedestrian path, equipped with functional elements: the newsstand, the fountain with water features, the archaeological finds, the seats, the greenery. The project is inspired by the reading and interpretation of the name of the street itself: Centocelle, from the Latin Centum-cellae (the numerous indentations in the coast called “cellae” or, according other historical ones, the numerous serial buildings present in this place). Going down the street, in fact, you come across orthogonal bands at a measured distance which are distinguished by the change in paving and on which the elements that make up the street furniture stand. The central route leads the visitor towards the most important place on the street, in front of the Theatre, where the street widens and ends in a square.
