maris stella’s church
Recovery intervention of some rooms annexed to the Maris Stella Church in Civitavecchia, dating back to the 15th century. The area on which the Church is located corresponds exactly to the center of the Roman Centumcellae, in a crucial area where the forum once stood. During the renovation works of the flooring of the Sacellum of S. Giuseppe, archaeological remains were found. These findings led to the revision of the project: in the new travertine flooring, glass surfaces supported by iron beams modeled so as not to obstruct the view of the findings below were designed. In the “Sacello di S. Giuseppe”, the statue of the Dead Christ dating back to the 18th century was placed, inserted in a crystal case inside a split travertine wall. In the Chapel of the Executed, a stone altar was created, marked with a cross carved into the wall for the celebration of short functions.
