roman warehouses
Recovery intervention of two Roman era warehouses in the “Antica Rocca” area, in the port of Civitavecchia. The project involved a first phase of conservative restoration of the rooms and a second phase of transformation into a commercial space, with the insertion of new architectural elements to support the activities. The main objective was to use the original structures as a score on which to work with suggestions linked to the proximity of the port and the sea. The laminated glass flooring, suspended on a metal structure, protects the original flooring and recalls the transparency of water. The texture of the slabs measures the architectural space. The equipped mahogany bench floats on the suspended grill which, as the only fixed piece of furniture, refers to the hull of a ship under construction.
